Erklärung des Zimbabwe Netzwerk zur aktuellen Lage vom Januar 2019.
Die Lage in Zimbabwe ist dramatisch: plötzliche massive Preiserhöhungen, Inflation, zunehmende Arbeitslosigkeit und weiterer wirtschaftlicher und sozialer Niedergang legen das öffentliche Leben lahm und bringen die Bevölkerung zu Protesten auf die Straße. Die Regierung hat keine weitere Antwort als brutale gewaltsame Repression. Und das soll das neue post-Mugabe Zimbabwe sein, „open for business“?
Das Zimbabwe Netzwerk e.V. schliesst sich dem Protest der Bevölkerung an und fordert die Regierung Zimbabwes auf, die Gewalt gegen die Bevölkerung sofort einzustellen und sich endlich den schwerwiegenden Problemen des Landes zu widmen. Dazu ist ein breiter gesellschaftlicher Dialog notwendig. Die staatliche Behinderung der freien Kommunikation und Meinungsäußerung muss gestoppt werden, und die Verantwortlichen für die brutale Repression gehören vor Gericht. Zusätzlich fordern wir die bedingungslose Freilassung aller derzeit im Rahmen der Proteste Inhaftierten.
Zimbabwe is in dire straits: sudden massive price increases, inflation, growing unemployment and further economic and social decline paralyse daily life and have resulted in widespread demonstrations. The government has no other response than brutal forceful repression. Is that what the new post-Mugabe Zimbabwe is about, “open for business”?
The Zimbabwe Network joins the protests of the Zimbabwean people and calls upon the Government of Zimbabwe to immediately stop the violence against its citizens, in order to start dealing with the underlying urgent problems that Zimbabwe has. To tackle these problems, a broad societal dialog appears necessary. The obstruction of free communication and expression by the state has to be terminated immediately, and those responsible for the brutal repression must be taken to court. We call for the unconditional release of all those arrested during the recent protests.
